Most
back pain results from musculo-skeletal disorders-injury, neglect or
misuse. Your spinal column forms a protective canal that houses the spinal
cord, which is your body's primary communication line. Poor posture, lack
of exercise, over-exercise, and misuse can build up over time and force a
vertebrae or a disc out of place. This misalignment can put pressure on
sensitive spinal nerves, interrupting the nerve flow and causing pain and
other related problems.
Dr.
Train is specially skilled in treating spinal misalignments. Her
diagnostic capabilities enable her to pinpoint structural problems that
are causing nerve interference. Her safe and gentle adjusting methods
offer her patients relief from pain and restored function and mobility of
affected joints. She then helps her patients maintain a symptom-free
lifestyle by educating them on the proper care and maintenance of a
healthy back and nervous system.
Chiropractic
care is one of the most effective methods in the treatment of back pain.
Headache
Pain
Because headaches are so common, some people think that getting a headache
is just a normal part of life! Headaches are a sign that something's
wrong!!
A
frequent and overlooked cause of headaches is the malfunction of spinal
bones in the neck and upper back. When bones of the spine lose their
normal position or motion, sensitive nerves and blood vessels to the head
can be affected. When spinal nerves and related tissues are stretched or
irritated they can produce throbbing headaches. Aspirin and medications
may cover up these warning signs but do not correct the underlying
structural cause.
If a
thorough examination reveals reduced range of motion, loss of normal
spinal curves, or mechanical restrictions, chiropractic care should be
considered.
TM
Disorders
(Pain in Your Jaw)
TM (temporomandibular) disorders, also called TMJ, affect the joint where
your skull meets your lower jaw. Stress, grinding or clenching your teeth,
poor posture, or an injury can cause the joint to become misaligned. You
may here clicking sounds or have pain, stiffness or a locked jaw.
Physical,
orthopedic (bone and muscle) and neurological (nerve) tests can help
reveal the condition of your jaw and upper spine. Dr. Train gently touches
and moves your jaw to check for tenderness, pain and restricted range of
motion.
Based
on the results of your exam and tests, Dr. Train will recommend a
treatment program to reduce and improve range of motion in your jaw.
Accidents,
Injuries
Collisions, falls, blows and tumbles-big or small-can create damage to
your nerves and spine. While accidents are often unavoidable, in most
cases, long-term damage from the vertebral subluxation complex that may
result can be avoided through chiropractic care.
Any
trauma to your spine can disturb the normal position and motion of the
vertebrae. Muscles, ligaments, and discs attached to the sine are also
affected. In turn, neural messages going from the brain to other parts of
the body mis-fire,interfering with your body's ability to heal and
function normally. These vertebral subluxations may go undetected for
years, silently destroying your natural good health.
That's
why is so important to have a spinal checkup whenever you have suffered an
accident or a fall. No matter how minor the accident, spinal damage should
be ruled out to protect your long-term health.
Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome
Vibration and repetitive motions, when combined with spinal problems and
other joint dysfunction, can result in a condition known as carpal tunnel
syndrome. Every day assembly line workers, keyboard operators, grocery
store clerks and many others receive microtraums to their hands and
wrists.
The
major nerve controlling the thumb, index and parts of the middle and ring
finger is called the median nerve. From the tip of your fingers, it
travels through the bones in your wrist, past your elbow, up your arm,
through your shoulder and neck, and finally to your spinal cord. Problems
can develop in one or more of these areas.
The
carpal "tunnel" is formed by bones in the wrist. The median
nerve, tendons and blood vessels pass through this opening. If one or more
of the bones forming this tunnel should collapse, inflammation, nerve
pressure and painful symptoms in the wrist area can result. The median
nerve connects to the spinal cord through openings between several bones
in the lower neck. When these spinal bones lose their normal motion or
position, they can cause problems in the fingers and wrist.
After a
thorough examination, Dr. Train will perform specific adjustments where
needed to help normalize structure and reduce nerve irritation. When given
time, conservative, chiropractic care has produced excellent results with
carpal tunnel problems-without drugs or surgery.
Scoliosis
Your spine is made up of 24 bones called vertebrae. Seven of these little
bones are in your neck, twelve in your thoracic or mid-back and five in
your lower back. They stack up one on top of the other to form a straight
line when viewed from front to back, but when viewed from the side they
form three curves (the neck and lower back lordotic curves, and the
mid-back or kyphotic curve).
When
seen from the front most spines are not perfectly straight, but when the
spine curves or twists excessively, it is called "scoliosis."
Chiropractors
do not treat disease, scoliosis included, but they do correct the
vertebral subluxation complex (a condition that interferes with the proper
functioning of the nervous system and the body as a whole).
Pregnancy
When you are pregnant, your posture, center of gravity, and body size
changes as the fetus develops. In addition, hormonal changes in pregnancy
cause ligamentous laxity, a loosening of the ligaments which holds the
bones together, especially where the pelvis and spine connect. As the
weight of the baby increases, so does the pressure on your spine.
Chiropractic
care helps to keep the body in optimal health by correcting nerve
interference in the spinal structure. A healthy spinal structure allows
the body to function better, fight infections better, and generally
improves the health of both the mother and the developing baby.
